With the decision in Belmont, CA to ban smoking in condos & apartments, do you think Houston should adopt a similar ban?

A Republican state senator is being criticized for a post on his blog that shows photos of Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden wearing similar clothing, along with a line that says the difference between them is "a little B.S."

The image was posted on Sen. Kevin Bryant's blog on Friday. It appears to be a photo of a T-shirt with images of bin Laden and Obama wearing turbans and the words "OBAMA" AND "OSAMA," with the "B" and "S" highlighted in red.

"It's just one of those pictures that I received by e-mail," Bryant told The Associated Press on Monday. "I hope people will understand the sarcasm in it."

He said he had been unaware of the uproar last week over a caricature of a turban-wearing Obama and his militant wife on the cover of The New Yorker.

"As a matter of fact, I was on vacation last week and I wasn't aware of that New Yorker picture," said Bryant, a 41-year-old pharmacist and first-term senator. "So I guess that's coincidence." He said reactions have been mixed.

Bryant said he is concerned about Obama's foreign policy stances and his commitment to fighting terrorism. He also asserted that a double standard applies to political criticism.

"I see a lot of hypocrisy of all the things that are said about our president, yet Sen. Obama is untouchable. Nobody seems to have a problem when they bash Bush. It seems like a double-standard to me."

The state Democratic Party chairwoman called the posting a "desperate and juvenile attempt" by Bryant to get attention for his re-election bid. Continued...

Subject: W.T.F.O.?
What ever happened to FREE SPEACH??? The LEFT is not the SOLEHOLDER of thie RIGHT and must not be allowed to remain in control of this RIGHT as they have for far tooooo LONG!! For 8 years they have called for the KILLING of the PRESIDENT and they have not let up and yet that is OK. Well they can kiss my A**!!!! I only can hope that this man does not cave under.......

Double standards? Nahhhh?
What? Dems spout how funny it would be if someone would assasinate the sitting President, make all sorts of juvenile and hate-filled remarks, but get all worked up over this? You bet!

That is the mind of a Socialist. The one thing you must recognize is that there is NO debate, its more of a one-way propagandizing. So, any dissent is immediately villified.

I hate to say it...no, really I don't...that the Dems have had more in common with our enemies than they do our fighting men and women. Look at the record: Can't win in Afghanistan, its "too hard;" can't invade Iraq, its a mistake; can't imprison enemy combatants as combatants classified by the Geneva and hague Conventions, they have to be treated like a domestic drunk driver in our own court system; they cut funding to US forces to politicise the war; they have sought high and low for a Mai Lai II, and thought that they had several and prosecuted the living crap out of Marines exonerated by the Haditha smear; micromanage and armchair general command and policy matters from ramrodding two different campaign medals to force Bush to say that Iraq was a seperate war to blocking the deployment of Guard and Reserve units.

Yep...I think the whole bunch ought to be given a turban and a free trip to Mecca.
