With the decision in Belmont, CA to ban smoking in condos & apartments, do you think Houston should adopt a similar ban?

Republican presidential candidate John McCain's campaign has ousted a prominent Virginia GOP figure who wrote a newspaper column mocking a potential Barack Obama administration.

A McCain spokeswoman said Bobby May was dropped this week from his job as McCain's Buchanan County campaign chairman.

May wrote in his column, "The (clarified) platform of Barack Hussein Obama," that if the Democratic senator were elected he would hire rapper Ludacris to paint the White House black and change the national anthem to the "Black National Anthem."

The column originally appeared in The Voice, a local newspaper.

May has worked on dozens of state Republican campaigns.

Subject: Acting on Racism
I think we miss the important part of what is happening. Whether you call these actions racism or just stupidity, they are, at their base form, an action of hate. For instance, what is the McCain/Palin supporter at a Rally in Johnstown, Pa doing carrying a monkey with an Obama bumperstick attached around its head? I am sure he meant it as a joke, but what is he saying by joking in that manner? Would we be laughing with an Obama supporter that carried a little Troll with a McCain sticker attached to its head? (no, I have not seen this, only have heard others refer to him as "troll like" because of his disabilities). We of course would be shocked and disgusted. And rightly so. In my opinion, both are acts of hate and should not be tolerated. If we can not stand up against our own, if good people do nothing, they are as guilty as the hate monger.

Sorry Not racist
I really did not find the remark racists. Dumb? yes. Perhaps poor taste and juvenile but not racist.

I also did not find racist Woopie Goldberg's question that if McCain were elected she should fear a return to slavery.

The Black politician a couple years ago who stated if Bush were elected Black would again face lynchings did not appear racists to me.

These are just dumb stupid remarks made to project political satire or to drive home point. They are not racist in my view and people who say them are not automatically racists.

Who among us has not said something stupid along the way?

Besides, being a racist does not mean you are a bad person. It just means you are a racist. What you do with those racial feelings determines if you are a bad person.

People need to lighten up.
